Are you looking to boost your ranking, increase traffic, grow your online presence and improve the quality and quantity of your leads?

Backlinks still matter. But not necessarily in the ways they used to. In the age of AI search and LLMs, it’s not just about passing authority any more; it’s also about making sure your brand shows up in all the right places.

As part of our SEO campaigns, we provide backlink acquisition, otherwise known as link building, services to help websites build credibility, create brand awareness and gain an edge over their competitors in the search results.

When done correctly, high-quality link building can boost your rankings by showing Google and other search engines (including AI engines) that your website is a trustworthy, reliable source of information.

Our Link Building Service

At The Digital Maze, we specialise in white-hat link building techniques to build high-quality backlinks to your website.

While the overarching goal is the same, all clients are different. As such, we don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach to link building; we will create a unique link-building strategy to ensure you are getting the most out of our services. However, the initial process typically follows a few different steps.

Backlink audit

We will complete an audit of your current backlinks to get a sense of where you are currently sitting, what backlinks you currently have and the quality of these backlinks.

Research

The best link building strategies start with research, we will fully immerse ourselves in your brand, industry and business to ensure we know who you are, who your competitors are and who the customers you serve are to ensure we are only finding the best, most relevant links.

Strategy creation

Once we’ve established where you’re currently sitting, we will begin to create a link building strategy, using a wide range of different techniques, that is uniquely suited to your needs and requirements.  As well as creating a strategy for building high quality links, we will also factor in reviewing your backlink profile and removing any spammy links that could be hindering your performance.

Implement strategy and link building techniques

Once we have your strategy, we will begin implementing the techniques we’ve identified as most valuable. Including outreaching to high-quality relevant websites, regaining lost backlinks, finding brand mentions and other techniques. We will never compromise quality for quantity.

Building backlinks can be a slow process. We use a number of different techniques to create a strong backlink profile for your website to help you boost your rankings in the SERPs and overall performance.

One size does not fit all, which is why it is important to choose an agency that will create a strategy tailored to your business and continually work with you to gain links and improve your website performance.

What Link Building Tactics Do We Use?

At The Digital Maze, we use a number of different techniques to create a well-rounded link building strategy. Some of the techniques we use are:

Outreach

We will reach out to high-authority websites in your industry and niche and introduce them to your relevant content, products or services.

Content creation

If you have some how-tos or guides full of helpful content, then showcasing them to places that would benefit is a great way to build links. We can also create content for you in the form of guides, graphics or how-tos.

Broken link building

When browsing a website, it’s common to come across broken links. This may be a great opportunity to reach out to the website and swap the broken link for something relevant from your website, whether it’s a blog, resource, product or service.

Link reclamation

Links are hard to build, and sometimes we lose them. We will continually identify lost links and try to reclaim them.

Unlinked brand mentions

We will find websites that have mentioned you and your brand but have not linked back to you and reach out to them to ask them to add a link.

Competitor link profiles

Looking at your competitors’ link profiles is a great way to identify websites that we can target when building backlinks, as we know they are already interested in the type of content we share and the products and services you offer.

Studies & research

Depending on your industry, creating studies that include helpful insightful data and information is one of the best ways to build links, as well as establishing yourself as an expert – great for E-E-A-T!

Directories and local citations

Directories and citation sites are websites where your company is listed, along with your contact details and often a description of your services. Getting listed on high-value citation sites such as Yelp, Hotfrog and Bing Places, as well as industry directories, can have huge benefits beyond just getting a link, such as establishing local presence, building brand awareness and creating trust.

Digital PR

Got a newsworthy story, such as a new product launch, entering a new market or an award win? We’ll help you get it heard! We’ll build targeted media lists, targeting the right publications and the right journalists, backed up by extensive research of their audiences, and then we’ll craft compelling pitches that show exactly why they need to feature your story.

These are just a few of the techniques we use

Link Building FAQs

Building links is just one component of an effective SEO strategy. Gaining quality backlinks from trusted websites is a great way to tell Google and other search engines that your website is also a reliable, trustworthy source of information. The more high-quality websites that link to you, the better your chances of ranking well in the search engines.

There is no set timeframe for building links to your website. The time it takes will depend on a number of factors, including the existing content on your website, your current brand authority, the products and services you have on offer and the industry you’re in.

To build quality links to your website, it’ll take time. With link building the quality of the links you are gaining is more important than the quantity. Gaining lots of links from low-quality, spammy websites can actually negatively affect your website performance so it is important to take time and target high-authority, highly relevant sites.

Effective link building takes time and expertise. Even though link building can be done by anyone, we would recommend choosing an expert.  Link building done incorrectly may actually impact your website and cause negative results.

At The Digital Maze, we have years of experience building strong backlink profiles for many different clients, in different industries so if you’re interested, we can help.

Link building, or link acquisition, is the process of creating links to your website. Having links from relevant, high-authority sites pointing to your content shows that these sites regard your content as valuable and trustworthy, so search engines will start to view it that way too!

Tracking SEO success back to a link building campaign can be tricky as often it forms part of a holistic SEO strategy, however there are certain KPIs that we track, including referral traffic, linking domains, and rankings uplift. We also use SEMrush’s Authority Score metric in our reporting, which uses the number of links a website as, as well as their overall authority, as part of its calculations.

When it comes to digital PR or content outreach, it’s a bit easier, as these are usually more tied to a specific story. We can measure the coverage a piece gets, and track metrics such as backlinks, referral traffic, leads/conversions and social media mentions.

If your site has received a manual penalty (you’ll get a notification in Search Console if this is the case – look under Security and Manual Actions in the left-hand menu), you have high levels of toxic links, you’ve been buying links or you have been hacked, then there are steps we can take to help your site to recover.

In this case, we would create a text file, called a disavow file, that lists all of the domains you want to no longer be associated with. We would then submit it to Google via Search Console’s Disavow Tool. Google takes these suggestions into account and recrawls your site.

HOWEVER – search engines are good at recognising low quality links, and they accept that many sites will often have these as part of a natural link profile anyway, so they will discount them, and there is no need to disavow in most cases. There is always the risk that you’ll disavow legitimate sites by mistake. As such, we’d recommend going down the disavow route only in the following situations:

  • a manual action penalty
  • very high volumes of toxic links
  • a hacked site or spam attack
  • you’ve been buying links

It’s also worth noting that disavowing links is only a suggestion – Google may or may not follow it.

Anchor text is the clickable text of a link. It can be anything, and is often something along the lines of “click here” or “find out more”, but you’re aiming for diversity here.

Part of your SEO strategy (see what we did there) should be to build links with relevant and descriptive anchor text, as this tells search engines (and users) what they can expect to find when they follow a link. However, you should avoid using exact match all the time, as this can come across as spammy.

So change it up – use your keyword research to find alternative ways of describing your content (search engine optimisation strategy, strategies for SEO, SEO and content strategy…), throw a few generic “read more“s or “click here“s in there, use “naked” links (where the clickable text is just the URL, e.g. https://thedigitalmaze.com) and brand links as well to maintain that diversity.

Sites like Ahrefs and SEMrush are good for seeing a breakdown of your anchor text, if you want to take a look!
