HB Environmental, formerly HB Insulations, is an HSE-licensed asbestos removal specialist based in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. For 40 years it has handled everything from asbestos in family homes across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire to complex commercial, industrial and demolition projects across the UK.
It’s a business built on safety, reputation and repeat work from councils, housing associations, contractors and property managers. The work had grown. The brand and website hadn’t.
HB’s website was dated, hard to use on mobile and built on Wix. It didn’t reflect the scale of work HB now delivers or the standards it works to, and it sent commercial buyers and homeowners down the same route even though they need very different things. The brand had the same problem: a name and identity from decades ago, where “Insulations” no longer described what HB actually does.
The project had several moving parts:

The project kicked off in May 2026 and ran in five phases: discovery, branding, design, development and launch. Josie Dunnicliffe and Hannah Middleton project managed, with weekly catch-ups keeping both teams moving.
1. Discovery. A kick-off session mapped HB’s services, its customers and where the business is heading. Two audiences stood out: commercial and public sector buyers who need evidence of capability, accreditation and sector experience, and homeowners who need clear advice and reassurance that their family is safe. Every decision after that was built around serving both.
2. Branding. Our designers, Sarah Cleal and Ash Walton, presented brand routes covering colour and typography, each applied to a full homepage so HB could judge them in context rather than as logos on a blank page. HB’s feedback led us to combine the best of two routes into one direction.
As the brand took shape, the conversation grew. Seeing HB presented in a fresh way prompted the leadership team to look again at the name itself. HB Insulations became HB Environmental, keeping the HB name clients have trusted for 40 years while describing the business far more accurately. We refined the logo with an “Asbestos Control” descriptor, presented it in navy with yellow and navy with orange, and HB signed off the orange. Full brand guidelines and a logo pack followed, so the new identity rolls out consistently across workwear, vehicles and site equipment.
3. Design. The site pairs a deep navy with high-visibility orange, a nod to the safety equipment HB’s teams wear every day. We designed every template for desktop and mobile and worked closely with HB on the structure as the content took shape:
Rather than leaning on stock imagery, our designers enhanced HB’s own site photography so the website shows real teams on real projects. We also designed reusable case study PDF templates in dark and light versions, so HB can turn completed projects into polished documents for tenders and bids.
4. Development. Liam Allman built the site in WordPress on our flexible ACF block system, giving HB a lightweight site with a small plugin footprint and full control over its content. The CMS proved itself before launch: HB’s team was writing and updating pages themselves during the build.
5. SEO migration and launch. Moving from hbinsulations.com to hbenv.com meant protecting the search value the old domain had built up. Our SEO team recommended a full domain redirect rather than masking, pulled a list of every existing page and mapped each one to its best new equivalent. On launch day we worked with HB to update DNS, kept their email running on the existing setup and ran full pre and post-launch checks. HB’s team then had CMS training and four weeks of Hyper Care priority support before handing over to an account manager for ongoing support.
HB Environmental launched on 22 September 2026, just over four months after kick-off. It’s early days, so performance figures will follow, but a 40-year-old business now has a name, brand and website that match the work it does today:
