DHS has partnered with us to design and build a bespoke Learning Management System (LMS), replacing off-the-shelf software with a platform built entirely around how their people actually learn.
DHS runs the staff bank for its NHS trust, training and deploying around 2,000 healthcare assistants, nurses, midwives and other clinical staff into hospital shifts. Every one of those people has to stay on top of mandatory training, and every shift depends on that training being current.
The problem was the software. The team had been working on a shared tenant of the trust’s Learning Passport platform, and it was not built for how they operate. Reporting was complex, staff were regularly locked out, and the admin team was managing renewals through spreadsheets and manual emails. As they put it themselves, it had them stuck in the dark ages.
Rather than force DHS to bend their processes to fit a generic tool, we are building a platform designed around their exact requirements. From how courses are created, to how training is assigned, to how compliance is tracked and reported, every part of the system is being built to do the job they actually need it to do.
The new platform moves DHS off the shared trust system and onto a single, dedicated instance built and hosted by us. It is designed to support around 2,000 users across web and mobile, with no shared infrastructure and full UK data hosting.
The build covers the features that matter most to a training-led organisation:
Security and compliance sit underneath all of it. The platform is GDPR compliant, encrypted in transit and at rest, with role-based access, single sign-on, and multi-factor authentication built in.
Most organisations reach a point where the software is holding them back rather than helping them forward. The generic system that worked at the start starts to creak as the organisation grows and its needs get more specific.
A bespoke build removes that ceiling. DHS get a platform that does exactly what they need, nothing they don’t, and can grow with them over time. They own the system, not a per-user licence that climbs every year.
What DHS say:
“Our old system had us stuck in the dark ages. We were managing training renewals on spreadsheets, chasing people manually, and our staff were constantly getting locked out. We needed something built around how we actually work, not the other way around. The Digital Maze understood that from the first conversation, and we’re looking forward to giving our team a platform that finally makes this easy.” Sally Norman, DHS
The project runs as a full end-to-end build, from discovery and design through development, testing, data migration, and training. Our team will work closely with the DHS team throughout, so the platform launches ready to use and their people know how to get the most from it.
We are proud to be trusted with a project of this scale, and we are looking forward to handing DHS a platform that makes training and compliance genuinely easier to manage.
