The Client

Opteco is a national waste brokerage company, spun out of Ward Recycling — a long-established waste management business based in the East Midlands. While Ward handles the operational side of waste collection and disposal, Opteco was created as an entirely separate brand to serve a different market: businesses across the UK that need a trusted broker to manage their waste requirements, rather than handling the logistics themselves.

With the brokerage model sitting apart from Ward’s existing operations, Opteco needed to establish itself in its own right. That meant a distinct brand identity, a professional website, and a digital presence capable of building credibility with national business clients from day one.

The Challenge

When Opteco approached The Digital Maze in September 2025, the business was in a difficult position. Their previous web agency had let them down at the last minute, leaving them without a website or brand identity despite significant groundwork already being done on content and strategy.

The brief was clear but demanding. Opteco needed a new website that was:

  • Built mobile-first, with fast load times and strong performance across all devices
  • Technically sound from an SEO perspective, with clean architecture, schema markup, and crawlability built in from the start
  • Designed with clear user journeys to convert brokerage enquiries
  • AI-ready, with a flexible CMS and modular structure to accommodate future features
  • Delivered quickly, given how urgently the brand needed to launch

There was no existing online presence to build on. Opteco was starting from zero — no domain authority, no search visibility, no established brand guidelines. Everything needed to be created from scratch.

The Approach

After an in-person pitch at the client’s offices in Ilkeston, The Digital Maze was appointed to deliver the project in October 2025.

The scope covered three areas:

1. Brand Guidelines

Before a single page was designed, we established a clear visual identity for Opteco. Brand guidelines gave the business consistent direction on logo usage, typography, colour palette, and tone — ensuring everything produced from that point forward felt cohesive and professional.

2.Website Design and Development

Our team built a custom WordPress website designed around lead generation and credibility. Key priorities included:

  • A clean, modern design suited to a national business audience
  • Mobile-first build with performance optimisation throughout
  • Technical SEO foundations built in from the outset — site structure, page speed, schema markup, and canonical tags — so the site was ready to build visibility from launch
  • Clear conversion paths directing visitors towards enquiry and contact
  • Flexible page architecture to allow Opteco to add content and scale the site as the business grows

The project was managed by Josie Dunnicliffe (Senior Project Manager), with Sarah Cleal leading on design and Oakley Waldron on development.

3.Hosting and Support

Ongoing hosting and support ensures the site remains secure, fast, and up to date post-launch.

The Results

The new Opteco website went live in early 2026, giving the brand a professional, credible digital home from which to build national reach.

From a technical standpoint, Opteco now has:w

  • A fully branded digital presence, built on brand guidelines developed alongside the website
  • A mobile-first website optimised for speed and performance
  • Technical SEO foundations in place from day one, giving the business the strongest possible starting point for organic visibility
  • A flexible WordPress platform that can grow with the business — whether that means expanding service pages, adding location content, or integrating future marketing activity
