I expected my work experience to be a typical placement: mostly observing, standing around, and watching the professional world from the sidelines without much hands-on involvement.
However, my time at The Digital Maze was an unexpected and positive surprise. Instead of being an observer, I was trusted with real, critical tasks, requiring self-direction and critical thinking. This hands-on approach, owning specific responsibilities and tackling actual challenges, proved far more educational than observation. It allowed me to effectively learn, apply, and master new skills and knowledge directly relevant to the company’s daily operations.
What did I do?
While at The Digital Maze I learned how websites are built, which honestly I have always been curious about. I used WordPress to put together pages for the website using blocks in the WordPress system. I also put together content documents for a client’s website design which was also really interesting!
I also put together posts which consisted of writing captions and creating relevant, interesting images for the post.
My final task was getting this blog post written! It’s not just a record of what I’ve been up to lately; it’s also a chance to step back and reflect on the whole journey, pulling out the main lessons and insights. It feels like the perfect end to the project, making sure all that hard work is captured and shared.
Would I recommend this for work experience?
I would absolutely recommend The Digital Maze for work experience. It was so hands-on and I felt like I was really getting involved and had so much fun! The people are lovely and the office is a very fun but productive place.
What will I use this experience for?
This whole experience was eye-opening. It really boosted what I already knew, way more than I expected. The deep dive into the subject, and getting to actually use the ideas, gave me a much better grasp of everything. It’s not just that I learned a lot; it’s also really cemented what I want to do with my career.
My passion for marketing has just gotten so much stronger after this. I love how modern marketing mixes creativity and smart strategy; it really clicks with my interests. I am now super motivated to go out there and land an awesome, challenging job in the marketing field! I’m ready to use everything I’ve learned and the fresh perspective I’ve gained to tackle real marketing problems and make a real difference for a progressive company like The Digital Maze.
