Why Web Design Matters for Food & Drinks Brands

The food and drink sector is visual and emotional, with unlimited options for visitors to choose from. Websites for food and drinks brands need to balance stunning design with optimum functionality, encompassing menus, products, services, booking systems, online payments, delivery, brand storytelling and high-quality imagery.

Consumers expect speedy, responsive websites that offer users a seamless experience, whether they’re ordering a gift hamper, booking a table or enquiring about availability for an event.

And, depending on your business, your customers may be searching on the move, so it’s important your site looks good and performs well across desktop and mobile devices.

Our Approach

Every business is different, and that’s especially true in the food and beverage sector, where businesses range from pubs, cafes and restaurants, to growers and producers, to online retailers and catering services, and sometimes cover more than one of these!

This means that every website is different, with a different set of requirements and functionalities. Our services and approach are tailored to what each client needs, but our overall process looks something like this:

Rings The Digital Maze

Discussion

We take time to understand your goals, so your website not only looks great, but directly supports your business growth. We’ll ask you questions about your business, your brand, your target audience and more, to get a deeper understanding of what makes you – and your customers – tick.

Planning

Once we have a thorough understanding of your requirements, we’ll start to plan out the site. Your project manager will work with the design, development and marketing teams to ensure we capture all key pages and functionality in the brief.

Design

Next, our design team will get to work creating visual templates of all your key pages. We’ll create prototypes that you can share with your team, to make sure that everyone is happy with what’s being delivered, and you’ll get plenty of opportunity to feed back and ask questions along the way.

Copywriting

A great design is only part of the equation. Our compelling, SEO-optimised copy turns browsers into buyers (or bookers!), engaging your visitors, and driving table bookings, product sales and event enquiries by speaking directly to what your customers are searching for.

Development

Once your designs are approved, our web development team will bring them to life, building a fast, responsive and SEO-friendly new website that keeps visitors coming back. We’ll create a staging site that you’ll have full access to, so you can see exactly what your new site will look like and how it will work. It also gives you the chance to feed back on any functionality issues before launch.

Testing & launch

When your new site is almost ready to go live, we’ll start on our comprehensive pre-launch checks. Your project manager and developers will work closely with the SEO team to make sure your content can be found, crawled and indexed by search engines and that any redirects are mapped from your old site to your new one. Once we’re confident of this, and you’re completely happy, we’ll go live.

Post-launch

Our support doesn’t end once your new site is live. We’ll continue to conduct post-launch checks to make sure everything is working as it should be, that conversions are being tracked and that your content is being found by search engines. Our technical team will also be on hand to help you with any queries you may have.

FAQs

Of course! Our developers are skilled in building integrations to existing software, including ERP systems, CRM systems, PIM systems and online booking and payment gateways. When we have our initial discussions with you, we’ll talk about the integrations you’ll need so that we can factor these into our web design and build.

We do – we offer various secure cloud web hosting and support packages. Some of these packages also come with ongoing training, as well as additional ongoing development.

We also offer web development as an ongoing service, which offers peace of mind to many of our more complex clients.

Yes. You’ll have your own login for your content management system (CMS), which will allow you to create new pages, update existing ones and make other changes to the content and layout of your pages, including implementing SEO recommendations.

If you require more in-depth technical changes, our development team will, of course, be happy to help!

Absolutely! We have done this many times for a whole host of food and drinks industry clients, which you can see in our case studies. Design, like most things web-related, is always evolving. We keep up to date with the changing landscape. and we love nothing more than using our cutting-edge knowledge and expertise to enhance our clients’ websites.

We also work closely with our SEO team to make sure that your existing organic visibility won’t be affected, including mapping redirects and running ongoing site crawls and technical checks.

Our designers and developers can work with any platform or CMS, including bespoke systems. We do have particular expertise in WordPress and WooCommerce websites (we’re both a WordPress Platinum Partner and a Woo Pro Partner!), but we’ve also worked with clients on Adobe Commerce (formerly Magento), Shopify, Wix, Squarespace and HubSpot.
